What Shingles are the Best?

When it comes to roofing, everybody wants to know — what’s the best shingle? The truth is, there are a few that stand out — not just in marketing, but in independent testing that we’ve done and real-world performance from installing over 600 roofs.

First up — Owens Corning Duration FLEX. These shingles are impact-resistant, flexible, and proven to handle Colorado hail better than just about anything in their class. They’re made with a rubberized asphalt blend that absorbs impact instead of cracking — and they come backed with one of the strongest warranties in the industry.

Next — CertainTeed Landmark ClimateFlex.known for consistency, color options, and reliability. CertainTeed’s warranty coverage is excellent, especially when installed as a certified system. It’s a great balance of performance, looks, and long-term protection.

Now, let’s talk about Malarkey. You’ll hear roofers talk about how well Malarkey performs in hail tests — and it’s true, it does pretty well. But here’s what most people don’t mention: Malarkey’s warranty is one of the weakest in the industry, and the shingles are known to scuff and damage easily from foot traffic. That’s a big problem for any homeowner — because if your roof gets damaged during maintenance or inspection, that warranty won’t protect you.

If you’re talking about value, the pabco prestige is by far the best value shingle we have found and tested. It is definitely not on the level of owens corning or certainteed, but if your comparing with similar price points like Tamco, Pabco Prestige is the king of the budget world.

At My Family Roofer, we recommend Owens Corning Duration FLEX or CertainTeed Landmark ClimateFlex because they combine impact resistance, proven longevity, and the strongest manufacturer support in the business.
